Dental Esthetics
Dental esthetics is very different from skin esthetics. The dental industry is all about teeth, therefore this will be your focus as an esthetician working in a dentist's office. Many estheticians work for cosmetic dentistry practices where various procedures are performed. These procedures may include tooth whitening, the application of dental veneers and implants, orthodontics and more. If you are interested in this career field a good starting place would be the ASDA. This acronym stands for the American Society for Dental Aesthetics.
The ASDA offers courses, seminars and more on the subject of cosmetic dentistry. This organization has been around for more than 30 years and has members all over the country. In addition to visiting the ASDA website you can find other sites to educate you further on the field of esthetic dentistry. Before making a decision about your education or career it is important to do plenty of research and make sure this career is the right one for you. You may want to research the salary and job opportunities for dental estheticians in your area.
There is a demand for dental estheticians because everyone wants a beautiful white smile. These days many people are willing to pay big money for perfect teeth.Therefore this career field can be lucrative. Depending on where you reside there may or may not be a lot of competition for jobs. Once you decide esthetics is what you want to do, the next step is to find a school that offers accredited training. Then you will be required to pass a state exam before you will be permitted to work as an esthetician. The requirements for esthetician training vary from state to state.
One thing is certain, you cannot find courses in dental esthetics through a school cosmetology program. You will need to attend an educational facility that specifically teaches esthetics in dentistry because it is so different from regular cosmetology. Your job will be to assist the dentist with a variety of tasks related to cosmetic dentistry. Working in this field is not only financially satisfying but emotionally as well. When people are able to improve their teeth they often gain more self-confidence and feel good about their appearance. You will feel good knowing you've provided a valuable service.
